From the beginning Pete and Joe wanted Zum to offer to its members the best personal training in the Puget Sound region, and to make the concepts and techniques accessible to all Zum members. With this vision in mind and recognizing that Pete and Joe could only see so many clients on a given day, Joe created ZUM’s system of training services. This system allows for a variety of membership options that offer a wide range of physical evaluations, unique and individualized exercise programs, and frequent appointments with a personal trainer. Joe is Zum’s Senior Mentor Trainer, overseeing our training staff to ensure that they each meet his and Pete’s exacting standards. His weekly session with the training staff and interns are more akin to a Master’s level seminar. In these meetings, Joe helps develop their ability to see the purity and effectiveness of movement done correctly; to correct inefficient or even potentially harmful ways of moving and demonstrate the correction of improper exercise technique. The group also explores different methods of exercise and fitness training, with all opinions welcomed and examined to help them critically reflect on their own training methods. In the ‘90’s, Pete developed a revolutionary Group Ex class called Elite Edge which was a training protocol that followed his core philosophies. Joe then created Zum’s seminal group exercise class, HardCore, which continues to play to a packed house. As instructors, both are known for giving precise and effective individual coaching to each participant, regardless of the size of the class. Joe continues to mentor many of the Zum instructors who continue the tradition of teaching unique and intelligently designed classes
